Gifts are Great, but Holiday Fun is Better

Posted on Nov 10, 2017

Can it really be almost time for the holidays? Seems like only yesterday we were getting ready for school to start! While you’re preparing holiday gift lists, consider this: the average parent spends $270 per child on gifts. How can you rein in spending without feeling like the Grinch? Simple: instead of giving physical gifts, give kids experiences. Check out these ideas for kid-friendly holiday activities from Monkey Joe’s Pineville:

  • Schedule a night to drive around and look at Christmas lights. Now that it’s getting darker so much earlier, you’ll have plenty of time between sundown and bedtime. Bring cocoa in car-safe mugs, load up some holiday tunes on the stereo, and enjoy each other’s company while enjoying the decorations.
  • Go on a fancy evening out! This doesn’t have to cost a bundle. Of course you can go to the ballet or the theatre, but you can also go to a matinee at the movie theatre. What matters is that everyone dress up in their fanciest clothing. Wear sparkly hats, speak in outrageously posh accents--the possibilities are endless.
  • Give the gift of bouncing! A Frequent Jumper Card at Monkey Joe’s is not only a fun gift to unwrap, it’s the gift that keeps on giving--for kids and for parents. Parents in particular be thrilled to have an outlet for all that extra energy during school break.

No matter how you choose to celebrate, remember that what’s important is having fun together. Approach holiday activities with a smile and a willingness to be silly, and kids will have a blast! We can’t wait to see you and your little monkeys at Monkey Joe’s Pineville!
